My father was the person who introduced me to art because he was an amateur painter
Masks, a way to express what people hide
Masks have always gotten my attention, specially African masks since I lived in Luanda, Angola. They have always had a special significance to me; I feel that people hide their feelings behind these masks, which I have tried to depict in my work with masks.
In 2004, as my final piece to graduate from the Armando Reveron school of art in Barcelona, Venezuela, I presented my work “Four Masks, four visions”. Later on when I lived in Africa I was able to create more pieces centered around masks. These pieces were presented in 2007 and 2008 in the 4th and 5th Women’s Exhibition of Luanda and in my own exhibition, “Vivencias”, at the Celamar Gallery in Luanda.
In art, masks take an important role. I am definitely attracted to their stories, which I will continue expressing in my paintings and sculptures.
